You are encouraged to use Chrome, Safari and Firefox for desktop computers and Chrome or Safari for Android and iOS. Please do not access Workday with the Microsoft Edge browser.

To view your vacation accrual through June 30th:

  1. Click your photo icon at the top right corner of Workday
  2. Click View Profile
  3. Click the Actions buttons under your title
  4. A navigation of actions will appear — choose Time and Leave then View Time off Balance
  5. Enter 06/30 for As Of date
  6. Click OK


No, you must choose to sign out of Workday in order to completely end your session. This is especially important in areas with public/shared devices.

To assign primary and/or contingent beneficiaries to Life and/or AD&D plans, complete the steps below:

  1. Click your photo icon at the top right corner of Workday
  2. Click View Profile
  3. Click the Actions buttons under your title
  4. A navigation of actions will appear — choose Benefits then Change Benefits
  5. Select Update Beneficiary for Benefit Event Type
  6. Put today’s date for Benefit Event Date
  7. Click Submit
  8. On the next page click the Open button
  9. The resulting page shows you which life insurance benefits you have. Click Continue.
  10. Under Beneficiary Designations, use the *Beneficiary column to attach your specified beneficiaries to your benefit plans. Then use the *Primary Percentage / Contingent Percentage column to select if they are primary or contingent and what percent you want them to have.
  11. Once you have added your beneficiaries, click Continue
  12. Review your elections and select “I agree” under Electronic Signature
  13. Click Submit to sent to RISD’s benefits team for approval


Student workers are handled differently than other employees and student workers will not show under your organization. However this does not impact your ability as a student supervisor to approve, review, or edit student time.

Many times a change in marital status might also have implications to benefit coverage and legal name. As such, RISD had initially required proof of documentation. However, if you are not changing your benefits and/or your legal name and are only changing your marital status, RISD will allow that change without documentation.

Workday will now only support iPad and iPhone devices on iOS 12.0 or higher. Update the Operating System on your device or use mobile browser to access Workday.
